RULES OF EXHIBITION – HORTICULTURAL & HOMECRAFT SECTION
1. Classes are open to all comers, except where otherwise stated.
2. No competitor may have more than ONE entry in any class, and no exhibit may be entered in more than one class.
3. All exhibits in the Flower and Vegetable Classes (but not in the Floral Art) must have been grown on land owned or cultivated by the competitor.
4. Handicraft and Cookery exhibits must be the work of the competitor, and must, except for wines, have been finished in the last 12 months. No uncooked fresh cream to be used in any cookery classes.
5. In awarding prizes in the Handicraft Section, originality, suitability of materials, pattern and stitch are considered. For all Handicraft entries including Childrens Classes, exhibitors must indicate on the entry form whether this is an original design.
6. The Committee may refuse any entry, sub-divide any class, determine the class in which an exhibit may be judged and withhold any prize. In the Children’s Classes if more than 11 entries are received in a class, a fifth prize will be awarded.
7. The Committee may appoint a member or members to inspect the gardens of competitors before the Show.
8. The Judges may withhold or divide any prize; their decision shall be final.
9. Protests or objections must be lodged, in writing, with the Horticultural Secretary before 2.00 p.m. on Show Day.
INSTRUCTIONS TO COMPETITORS
ENTRY FEES: Adults 20p per entry
Children under 16 years 10p per entry
All competitors under 16 years of age on Show Day entering in CHILDREN’S CLASSES must state their name and age in years and months on the outside of their sealed competition labels. Entries must be made out on the forms provided and must be forwarded, together with remittance for entry fees, to reach the Horticultural Secretary ON or BEFORE 29th July 2008. Entries cannot be accepted without remittance.
The Secretary will supply special Competition Labels to each competitor: these labels must be sealed by the competitor and FIRMLY ATTACHED TO EACH EXHIBIT according to the class number stated thereon.
Competitors must stage their exhibits in the tent BEFORE 10.00am on Show Day, when the tent will then be closed for judging.
The Committee will take the greatest care of all exhibits but it is a condition of entry that the Society will not be responsible for any loss or damage of same.
A Collector’s Ticket will be given to exhibitors with their Competition Labels, and this must be presented at the Horticultural Tent at 4.15 p.m. in order to collect exhibits and prize money. The Collector’s Ticket cannot be used as an admission Ticket to the Show. Any exhibits not collected by 5.00pm will be disposed of.
PRIZE MONEY WILL BE PAID OUT IN THE TENT AT 4.30PM
FLOWER CLASSES
Exhibitors are requested to name varieties, if possible, for the interest of all. Exhibitors must use containers provided unless stated (e.g Class 3).
Class 1 Six Calendulas (not French or African Marigolds).
Class 2 Sweet Peas, twelve spikes, mixed.
Class 3 A bowl of Nasturtiums (bowl limit 7” / 18cm) Provide your own bowl.
Class 4 Five different kinds of cut.
Class 5 Six Dianthus (Garden Pinks).
Class 6 Three Phlox.
Class 7 Five different kinds of herbaceous Perennials.
Class 8 Six Roses.
Class 9 Three H.T. Roses, separate varieties, named.
Class 10 Three sprays of Polyantha or Floribunda Roses.
Class 11 One Specimen Rose, fragrance being taken into account.
Class 12 One spray from each of three flowering shrubs.
Class 13 Three Decorative Dahlias, long stems.
Class 14 Three Cactus Dahlias, long stems.
Class 15 Three Pompom Dahlias, long stems.
Class 16 Three spikes of Gladioli, any varieties.
Class 17 Any flowering plant in a pot except Fuchsia (pot limit 9” / 23cm)
Class 18 Fern or Foliage plant in a pot (pot limit 9” / 23cm)
Class 19 A Fuchsia in a pot (pot limit 9” / 23cm),
Class 20 A Cactus or Succulent (pot limit 9” / 23cm).

Class 163 An arrangement in a wellington boot (children under 16 years). Class 164 A Cushion of flowers and a teaplate – not to exceed 8" Children of 8 years and under. Class 165 A display Of Floating Flowers – maximum size limit 10” (254mm). Children of 9 and under 16 years.
LOCAL CLASSES
The Hayes Garden World Perpetual Challenge Trophy and prizes will be given for the Most Attractive Planting of Flowers designed to enhance a property. For the parishes of Hawkshead and Claife only. To be judged during July. First prize winners will be exempt for one year. All properties to be judged this year unless we are asked not to. Please contact Ms J Hodgson on Hawkshead 36090 if you prefer your garden not to be judged. Thank you.
Please note that the presentation of trophies for the Horticulrutal and Homecraft Section will take place in the Horticultural Tent at approximately 4pm.
